Serie: Vampire Academy #1
Release date: 2007
St. Vladimir’s Academy
isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are
educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect
them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa,
a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re
being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most
in danger...
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance,
the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals.
But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most
dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
I don't know why I have waited so long to pick this book up. I just couldn't put myself to read it, but now that I have, I can't imagine why I waited so long. It is a great book. The primary protagonist, Rose, is strong; she is tough, quick-tempered, but very clever with a great sense of humor. The sarcastic comments made me laugh. Rose, is best friends with a vampire princess, Lissa.
Their friendship is intense and all the feelings between
them are just so right. Rose is Lissa's protector, and they
also share a mental bond. The tension that comes with the mental bond is very realistic. The
romantic relationships are also great. Rose becomes involved with
another protector, Dimitri, but it's a forbidden one and one than you don't read much about. Hopefully it will develop in the next books in this serie. The tension between Rose and Dimitri is there and it makes you want to read on. Also the romantic development between Lissa and Christian makes me want to read the second book of this serie. There was a thing I didn't like about the book, the mythology can be a bit confusing, Richelle Mead did not do a great job explaining the different terms, but it is a great book!
