One Black Rose - Maddy Edwards

Serie: One Black Rose #1
Release date: 2011

Sixteen-year-old Autumn goes to stay with her friend Carley in Castleton, Maine, for the summer. All she’s expecting is a normal couple of months hanging out at the beach with friends. Nothing out of the ordinary was supposed to happen.

But as soon as she arrives she meets Holt Roth. Holt is unlike anyone she’s ever met before – and her reaction to him is even more unexpected.

Then she meets his friend, Samuel Cheshire. If her reaction to Holt was strong, her reaction to Samuel is shocking. The only problem is that he seems to hate her for no reason at all.

Not being able to choose between two guys is only the beginning of Autumn’s problems, because both Samuel and Holt are Fairy Princes, and Autumn is caught between her own desires and the Fairy Courts, who might cause her immeasurable pain if she makes the wrong choice.

When I read the summary I was definitely intrigued with the story. The cover is a bit boring. You meet Autumn, which is a totally perfect name for the story. I really like her, she is just ordinary but somehow there are two boys fighting over her. She is also very strong. Meet Hold and Samual. I instantly liked Holt, he is sexy and easy going. He is sweet, strong and caring. His family is nice to Autumn too. You just want Autumn to choose Holt. But then there is Samual, he is the mysterious guy who doens't seem to like her, but the further the story progresses you begin to like Samual and there seems to be more to him. He has problems with his family and doens't want to be what they want him to be. Autumn plays a very big part in that. It makes you wonder who Autumn will choose. The book reminded me of the Iron Fey series, but the story is a bit different. I like the summer and winter fairy story, just as in the Iron fey series, but luckily Maddy Edwards gives her own spin in the story. I like that Autumn is really being herself and doing what she wanted, even though that it is not always the easy path. I did not like her so called best friend Carely, she is kind of egocentric and jealous of Autumn. Nick however is just a nice guy and hopelessly in love with Carely for some reason. The story is just very well written and I can't wait to read the next book in this serie.
